Last week, we had the chance to experience one of the most beautiful and unique events in Indianapolis: Art in Bloom at Newfields. And honestly, it felt like stepping into a completely different world—one where art and nature blend seamlessly in the most magical way.
Hosted inside the Indianapolis Museum of Art, this annual event transforms the galleries into a living, breathing exhibition. More than 50 floral installations, created by talented designers, are inspired by pieces from the museum’s permanent collection, bringing paintings and sculptures to life through flowers.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear this wasn’t just a typical museum visit. Every room felt immersive, colorful, and full of detail. Some arrangements were elegant and minimal, while others were bold, dramatic, and impossible to ignore. It was fascinating to see how each floral design interpreted the artwork next to it—sometimes matching colors perfectly, other times reimagining the piece in a completely new way.
One of the things that made the experience feel so special was how interactive and dynamic everything felt. It wasn’t just about looking at art—it was about exploring it. Throughout the event, there were workshops, demonstrations, and even spaces where visitors could create their own floral pieces or enjoy themed drinks like the signature Bloom-Tea-Ni cocktail.
There was also something incredibly calming about walking through the galleries surrounded by fresh flowers. The scent, the textures, the colors—it all added another layer to the museum experience that you simply don’t get on a regular visit. It made us slow down, take our time, and really appreciate both the art and the creativity behind each installation.
What we loved most is how this event makes art feel more accessible. Whether you’re an art lover or just looking for something different to do in Indy, Art in Bloom creates a space where everyone can connect with creativity in their own way. It’s inspiring, photogenic, and honestly, a perfect reminder of how powerful art can be when combined with something as natural as flowers.
Even though this year’s event has already passed, it’s definitely something we would recommend adding to your list for next year. It’s one of those experiences that stays with you—simple, beautiful, and unexpectedly magical.
