Alex Palou Conquers Detroit Chaos, Earns Fourth Win of 2026 INDYCAR Season

Palou Keeps Championship Momentum Alive in Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. — The streets of Detroit delivered exactly what INDYCAR fans expected on Sunday: strategy, contact, unpredictable moments and nonstop action. When the chaos settled, it was Alex Palou once again standing at the top.

The reigning Indianapolis 500 champion and four-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion earned his fourth victory of the 2026 season at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, continuing what has become one of the strongest campaigns in recent INDYCAR history.

Starting from pole position, Palou guided the No. 10 HRC Chip Ganassi Racing Honda through a demanding street race filled with tire strategy decisions, traffic and aggressive racing. His measured approach and race management ultimately secured a 3.0584-second victory.

Street Fight in the Motor City

Detroit’s temporary downtown street circuit once again proved why it remains one of the toughest challenges on the INDYCAR calendar.

Drivers battled through tight corners, changing grip conditions and varying tire strategies in what became a full-contact affair throughout the field. While several competitors pushed aggressively for position, Palou maintained composure and controlled the race when it mattered most.

Kyle Kirkwood delivered another strong performance for Andretti Global, finishing second in the No. 27 Sam’s Club Honda and showing impressive pace throughout the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Graham Rahal continued his consistent 2026 season by finishing third in the No. 15 Fifth Third Bank Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, securing his third podium appearance of the year.

Strong Showing for Arrow McLaren

Detroit also marked an encouraging weekend for Arrow McLaren and Chevrolet at the manufacturer’s home event.

Pato O’Ward crossed the line in fourth place, followed closely by teammate Christian Lundgaard in fifth. Both drivers kept themselves in the mix during a race where strategy and survival were equally important.

The result gives Arrow McLaren valuable momentum as the championship calendar continues to build toward the summer portion of the season.

Palou Continues To Set the Pace

With four victories in the opening eight races of 2026, Alex Palou continues to establish himself as the driver to beat.

The Spaniard has shown versatility across street circuits, road courses and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, combining speed with consistency in a season that increasingly looks like another championship-caliber campaign.

Detroit added another chapter to that story — not through domination alone, but through patience, smart strategy and the ability to stay calm while others struggled in the chaos around him.

For INDYCAR fans, the Motor City delivered drama.

For Alex Palou, it delivered another trophy.
