Summer and tequila are always a great combination, and Cholita is bringing exactly that to this year’s Devour Cocktail Trails with the Hoja Fresca.
What makes this cocktail truly special is the story behind it. Hoja Fresca is one of Cholita’s signature creations, inspired by the vibrant flavors of Mexico and centered around hoja santa, an aromatic leaf commonly used in Mexican cuisine with subtle notes reminiscent of sassafras and root beer.
The cocktail begins with Cholita’s house-made bitters, crafted by infusing hoja santa with quassia bark, allspice, black pepper, and cloves for two weeks. It’s then mixed with Herradura Reposado Tequila, homemade ginger-vanilla syrup, fresh lemon juice, and topped with Mineragua sparkling water, creating a refreshing, herbaceous cocktail with a uniquely Mexican character.
A special thank you to Kevin, who created this incredible cocktail and took the time to walk us through every ingredient and the inspiration behind it. His passion for the craft and outstanding hospitality made the experience even more memorable and gave us a deeper appreciation for everything that goes into every glass.
The Devour Cocktail Trails invite visitors to discover featured cocktails at participating restaurants across Central Indiana from August 1 through September 6. Along the way, guests can explore new restaurants and vote for the cocktail they enjoyed the most.
The celebration continues with Devour Summerfest, taking place August 24 through September 6, when participating restaurants will also feature special dining menus.
If you’re planning to experience the Cocktail Trails this year, Cholita absolutely deserves a spot on your itinerary.
