Last Thursday, we had the incredible opportunity to visit The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and experience the brand-new Centennial Ferris Wheel, a spectacular addition to the museum’s 100-year celebration! As the museum marks this monumental milestone, the Ferris wheel brings a fresh and thrilling way to see the campus from new heights.
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis has inspired young minds for 100 years! Founded in 1925 by Mary Stewart Carey, the museum began as a small collection and has grown into the largest children’s museum in the world, spanning 815,700 square feet with 13 major indoor galleries and the 7.5-acre Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience®.
Through the years, the museum has continuously expanded, hosting world-class exhibits like Dinosphere®, The Power of Children: Making a Difference®, and Fireworks of Glass by Dale Chihuly. In addition to its incredible exhibits, the museum has a mission to ignite joy, wonder, and curiosity in children and adults alike. Its impact extends beyond the walls with community programs, partnerships, and educational initiatives that reach families across Indianapolis and beyond.
For a century, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis has been a source of pride and joy for the city. Generations of families have walked through its doors, learning, growing, and creating cherished memories. Its dedication to education, inclusivity, and community enrichment has solidified its place as an essential institution in Indianapolis. The museum’s efforts in making learning accessible, through programs like the Access Pass, Foster Family programs, and First Thursday Nights, demonstrate its commitment to serving everyone in the community. As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we recognize how lucky we are to have such an extraordinary museum right in the heart of our city!
Located outside in the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience®, the Centennial Ferris Wheel is a one-of-a-kind attraction, exclusive to The Children’s Museum. As soon as we arrived, we could see families and children eagerly lining up to take in the breathtaking views of the museum grounds, downtown Indianapolis, and beyond. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and joy, making it clear that this new feature is already a favorite among visitors.
Before we dive into the perfect pairing of pickleball and Long Drink, let’s take a quick trip back to 1952 Finland. The country was gearing up to host the Summer Games and wanted to impress international visitors with a refreshing beverage that could be served quickly to large crowds. The government commissioned the creation of a unique liquor drink, and thus, the first Long Drinks were born, a delicious blend of citrus soda and premium liquor. This revolutionary concoction became a national sensation and remains a staple in Finnish culture today.
Once aboard, we ascended slowly, taking in the incredible sights all around us. The ride lasts about 7–8 minutes, giving just enough time to soak in the scenery and snap some memorable photos. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime fan of the museum, the Centennial Ferris Wheel offers a unique perspective and an unforgettable experience.
