Golden Hour Books: A Beautiful Independent Bookstore in Indianapolis

One of my favorite things about exploring Indianapolis is discovering small, independent businesses that truly add personality to the city. Recently, I stopped by Golden Hour Books, an independent bookstore located along College Avenue in Broad Ripple — and it quickly became one of those places I know I’ll keep coming back to.

Golden Hour Books specializes in a carefully curated selection of new books, with a strong focus on nonfiction, poetry, art, design, and children’s literature, alongside a thoughtful mix of popular fiction. Instead of overwhelming shelves, everything feels intentionally selected, which makes browsing here a really enjoyable experience.

If you love spending time in bookstores the way I do, this is the kind of place where you’ll want to slow down, explore every section, and probably leave with more books than you planned.

The Perfect Stop Next to LUNA Music

One of the best things about Golden Hour Books is its location right next to LUNA Music, one of Indianapolis’ most iconic record stores.

This makes it the perfect combo for a chill afternoon in the city. You can browse vinyl records at LUNA Music and then walk next door to discover your next favorite book. It’s honestly one of the coolest little cultural corners in Indianapolis for people who love music, literature, and creative spaces.

For me, it felt like the perfect Indy moment: vinyl records on one side, beautiful books on the other.

A Bright, Welcoming Space Full of Good Vibes

As soon as you step inside Golden Hour Books, the first thing you notice is the beautiful natural light filling the space. The store feels airy, calm, and incredibly inviting — exactly the kind of atmosphere you want when browsing books.

The layout is also thoughtfully organized. Instead of the typical bookstore arrangement, the shelves highlight featured titles and staff picks, helping guide you toward interesting reads you might not have discovered otherwise.

There’s also a great children’s section, making it a perfect stop for families looking to introduce younger readers to the magic of books.

And if audiobooks are more your style, the store partners with Libro.fm, allowing you to purchase audiobooks while still supporting a local independent bookstore.

A True Community Bookstore

Golden Hour Books isn’t just a place to buy books — it’s also a community hub for readers in Indianapolis.

The bookstore regularly hosts events, workshops, book clubs, and even book swaps, creating opportunities for people to connect through literature. It’s always great to see local spaces like this bringing readers together and supporting the literary community in Indy.

The owner and staff are also incredibly welcoming and helpful, which makes the experience even better. Independent bookstores thrive because of passionate people like this.

Support Your Local Bookstores

Places like Golden Hour Books remind me why supporting independent bookstores matters. They bring character, creativity, and community into neighborhoods in ways that big chains simply can’t replicate.

If you’re exploring Broad Ripple, planning a weekend coffee walk, or stopping by LUNA Music, make sure to step inside Golden Hour Books. You might just find your next favorite read.

And trust me — the vibes are on point.
