Visiting Macizo was an unforgettable culinary experience, blending the best of Mexican and Peruvian cuisines into an exciting yet homey fusion. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the perfect stage for a night filled with bold flavors and unique dishes.
A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation
We kicked off our tasting journey with their Funky Fresca, an innovative beverage crafted through an elaborate process of fruit and milk purification, then mixed with wine for a refreshing and unexpected twist. The complexity and depth of flavors in these drinks were just a preview of the culinary adventure ahead.
Our first dish was the Guajolota Toast, Macizo’s creative take on a torta de tamal. This dish featured sourdough toast layered with tamale verde, refried beans, mole, queso fresco, and sarza criolla—a combination that was both comforting and deeply flavorful. Next, we enjoyed Sopa Criolla, a Peruvian classic that immediately felt like a warm embrace. This rich and hearty soup consisted of diced beef, potatoes, angel hair pasta, milk, a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg, and a slice of toasted sourdough bread.
Bold Flavors and Signature Dishes
As the night continued, we indulged in Pasta Huancaína, an incredible fusion of Italian and Peruvian flavors. The spaghetti was coated in a slightly spicy huancaína sauce, complemented by lomo saltado sauce, and served with a slice of toasted sourdough bread. Then came the Mole & Verde Enchiladas, featuring chicken enchiladas covered in homemade mole sauce, sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds, offering the perfect balance of richness and spice.
For those who love bold and satisfying bites, the Steak Burrito was a highlight. Filled with lomo saltado and rice in a flour tortilla, it was served with a side of bean salad, making it a hearty and satisfying option. The Tacos Campechanos were another standout, featuring double corn tortillas with cheese melted between them, topped with avocado, chorizo, ribeye, and sarza criolla—a true explosion of flavors in every bite.
The Perfect Pairing: House-Made Sangrias & Dessert
To complement our meal, we sipped on two incredible house-made sangrias, crafted from scratch with passion fruit and raspberry flavors. These drinks had the perfect balance of sweetness and freshness, elevating our dining experience even further.
We ended the night on a high note with the +HIZO bread a la mode, a seasonal dessert that was pure indulgence. Soft, warm, and served with ice cream, it was the perfect way to wrap up an incredible meal.
