Social Cantina Broad Ripple — A Preview Night Full of Flavor, Color, and Good Energy

The vibe: tacos, tequila, and good company

There’s something about Broad Ripple that just feels alive — the music, the people, the art, the energy. And now, this neighborhood has a brand-new spot that perfectly matches that vibe: Social Cantina. We were invited to their exclusive VIP Preview Night ahead of the grand opening, and it was exactly what the name promises — social, vibrant, and filled with incredible Mexican-inspired flavors.

From the moment we stepped in, we could feel that mix of modern design and local personality. The interior blends warm lighting, rustic wood textures, colorful murals, and that signature “Cantina energy” — laid-back but sophisticated. You instantly want to grab a margarita, chat with your friends, and stay longer than you planned.

The start: chips, dips, and flavor flights

We kicked off the evening with the Chips & Salsa Flight, a combination of two salsas and two dips from options like white queso, guacamole, pico de gallo, and avocado ranch. It’s the perfect starter — bright, flavorful, and made to share. Every dip had its own personality, from the creamy guac to the smooth queso. It’s one of those appetizers that instantly sets the tone: fun, casual, and meant for conversation.

Appetizer highlight: Cantina Wings

Next came one of our favorite surprises of the night — the Cantina Wings. These wings are tossed in Cahaba sauce and topped with shishito peppers, fresh cilantro, and avocado ranch. They’re smoky, a little spicy, and totally addictive. The shishitos add a unique twist, while the avocado ranch cools it all down. You can tell this isn’t your average bar food — it’s thoughtful, flavorful, and perfectly balanced.

Cantina bowls: fresh, vibrant, and full of life

For our main course, we tried the Fiesta Shrimp Bowl, and it completely won us over. The grilled shrimp were perfectly seasoned, resting on cilantro-lime rice with guacamole, jalapeño, pickled red onion, red cabbage, and a tropical pineapple habanero crema. The mix of textures and colors makes every bite exciting — spicy, tangy, sweet, and refreshing all at once.

It’s the kind of dish that feels light but satisfying, ideal for those looking for something fresh with a bit of a kick. Definitely a must-try when you visit.

Taco time: a trio worth talking about

Social Cantina’s tacos are where things get serious. We ordered a trio — and every single one stood out.

Carne Asada came with marinated and grilled flank steak, grilled peppers and onions, chimichurri, and cotija cheese. The flavors were smoky, rich, and earthy — just what you want in a steak taco.

Chicken Tinga had tender tinga-marinated chicken with guacamole, tomatillo crema, and tropical pico. It was creamy, juicy, and perfectly balanced between tangy and mild spice.

And the Chorizo Picadillo — wow. Old Major chorizo sausage mixed with fried potatoes, cilantro-lime rice, ancho honey crema, and ghost pepper jack cheese. It’s bold, hearty, and unforgettable. A taco for people who love strong, layered flavors.

If you’re the type who likes to mix it up, grab a few different ones and create your own “taco flight.” Each one feels like its own story.

Dessert: a sweet ending

We ended the meal on a high note with the Tres Leches — a light sponge cake soaked in sweetened milk, topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. It was simple but beautifully done, with the perfect sweetness and texture. It’s that comforting kind of dessert that makes you slow down and savor the moment.

Drinks: the soul of the Cantina

Of course, it wouldn’t be a night at Social Cantina without a good cocktail (or two). The Revolución was a favorite — made with Woodford Reserve, Corralejo Añejo, Angostura bitters, agave nectar, and orange peel. It’s bold, smooth, and just a little smoky.

Then there’s the Pineapple Margarita, which honestly might become your go-to drink. Made with Hornitos Plata, triple sec, agave nectar, house sour mix, and pineapple with a salt rim — it’s tropical, refreshing, and picture-perfect. The balance between citrus and sweetness makes it dangerously easy to sip.

The experience: modern Mexican done right

What makes Social Cantina special isn’t just the food — it’s the entire experience. The team clearly put thought into every detail, from the design to the menu. The Broad Ripple location has that neighborhood feel that makes you want to become a regular. It’s a space that invites laughter, good conversation, and of course, another round of margaritas.

A special shoutout to Andrew, our server for the night, who made everything even better. He was friendly, attentive, and had the best recommendations — from which tacos to try to which margarita pairs perfectly with them. It’s always the people that make an experience memorable, and Andrew truly did.

The atmosphere hits that sweet spot between casual and upscale — you can go for a fun dinner with friends, a date night, or even a chill solo evening at the bar. It’s lively without being loud, trendy without being pretentious.
