If you’ve ever wanted to explore the Andes Mountains, walk through an Amazon rainforest, or sip fresh juice in a Peruvian market — now’s your chance, right here in Indy! The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis has just opened its latest international exhibit: Take Me There®: Peru, and it’s truly a must-visit experience for families, kids, and curious explorers of all ages.
This immersive, bilingual exhibit opens July 12, 2025, and invites visitors to “travel” to one of South America’s most culturally rich countries — no passport required.
Once inside, guests hop aboard “Take Me There Airways” and land in a beautifully recreated version of Peru. You’ll journey through three regions: the coast and city life of Lima and Arequipa, the majestic Andes Mountains, and the lush Amazon rainforest.
At every turn, the museum combines hands-on learning with authentic storytelling — whether it’s exploring the home of a real Peruvian family, brushing alpacas, learning to dance through Lima, or spotting animals in a rainforest canopy.
Kids can walk through a Peruvian classroom, discover ancient art and modern crafts, learn words in Spanish and Quechua, and even join live cooking demos to explore traditional Peruvian dishes. A highlight? Playing shopkeeper in a bustling mercado, squeezing virtual juice, and learning about real Peruvian textiles.
It’s an incredibly fun and educational way for families to discover what daily life looks like in another part of the world — and understand the beauty of a culture many may not have experienced before.
Take Me There: Peru is more than an exhibit — it’s part of a new Latino Cultural Initiative at the museum, designed to celebrate Indy’s growing Latino population and introduce young visitors to global diversity in meaningful ways.
Labels throughout the exhibit are in both English and Spanish, and the museum worked closely with cultural advisors and Peruvian partners to ensure everything — from the colors to the music — feels real, relevant, and respectful.

A special thank you goes out to the incredibly talented Peruvian artists and illustrators whose vibrant work brings Take Me There: Peru to life. Their creativity and cultural perspectives add authenticity, depth, and beauty to the exhibit. From the vivid Amazonian imagery of Brus Rubio, to the powerful urban storytelling by Decertor, the whimsical wonder of Cake, the vibrant animal-city fusion of The Monks, and the textured fiber masterpieces of Felipe Coaquira—each artist contributes a unique voice rooted in Peru’s diverse regions and traditions. In collaboration with Monumental Callao, these artists have helped transform the space into a colorful celebration of heritage, memory, and imagination. We’re proud to see their work shine here in Indianapolis and inspire visitors of all ages. ¡Gracias, artistas!
