From the moon mission to the Racing Capital of the World, Jeremy Hansen added a unique energy to Indianapolis during one of the city’s biggest weekends.

The spirit of exploration landed in Indianapolis this May as astronaut Jeremy Hansen joined the excitement of the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 and the 500 Festival celebrations.

As part of this year’s Indy 500 Race Weekend, Hansen attended multiple signature events, bringing together two worlds that share a passion for innovation, speed, and pushing limits.

Hansen, a Canadian Space Agency astronaut and mission specialist aboard NASA’s historic Artemis II mission, recently helped make history during the first crewed lunar flyby mission in more than five decades. His presence in Indianapolis added an inspiring layer to an already unforgettable Month of May.

Throughout race weekend, Hansen participated in several fan-favorite moments, including Carb Day final practice activities, appearances during the 500 Festival Parade, and Race Day festivities at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He also joined the Race Morning Red Carpet and met with media while taking part in one of the world’s most iconic sporting events.

For many fans, seeing Hansen move between downtown parade celebrations and the legendary Speedway felt like a natural connection. Both space exploration and motorsports represent determination, teamwork, precision, and the pursuit of what once seemed impossible.

The Artemis II mission captured worldwide attention after carrying astronauts on a 10-day journey near the moon, marking humanity’s return to deep-space exploration after 54 years. Hansen’s appearance at Indy highlighted those same themes of courage and discovery that have long defined the Indianapolis 500.

At We Like Indy, we loved seeing how the city embraced this crossover between science and racing culture. From the excitement of the 500 Festival to the electric atmosphere of Race Day, Hansen’s participation served as a reminder that Indianapolis celebrates more than speed, it celebrates innovation and dreamers willing to go farther.

As thousands gathered across Indianapolis for one of the biggest weekends of the year, Jeremy Hansen’s visit became another memorable chapter in the story of Indy 500 weekend 2026.
