A few weeks ago, we took a trip to Lafayette and discovered a spot that instantly stood out: Lafayette Chimney Cakes. Located right in the heart of downtown, this cozy shop has the kind of welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer than planned. It’s the perfect place to stop while exploring Main Street and discovering everything Lafayette has to offer.

What makes this place even more special is the story behind it. Nicolle and Damon, both Purdue graduates, first discovered chimney cakes during a trip to Prague in 2022 and immediately fell in love with the experience. Inspired to bring that same feeling back home, they opened Kürtőskalács to introduce Greater Lafayette to this beloved traditional Eastern European treat. Their goal wasn’t just to serve dessert—it was to create a warm space where students, families, and visitors could gather, try something different, and experience a little piece of another culture.

Freshly Made and Worth Every Bite

Of course, we had to try one for ourselves. We ordered a Sweet Kürtőskalács ($9) topped with strawberries, Nutella, whipped cream, caramelized cinnamon sugar, and cookie crumble. And honestly… it was delicious. The dough was warm, perfectly baked on the outside, soft on the inside, and every bite had the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. It’s one of those desserts that looks incredible but tastes even better.

Another thing we really appreciated is that they also offer a vegan version of their chimney cakes. Instead of traditional milk powder, their vegan dough is made with coconut milk powder, making it a great option for both vegan and vegetarian guests. Just remember to call ahead if you’d like to order the vegan version.

More Than Just a Dessert Stop

Beyond the dessert itself, we loved the overall experience. The shop features beautiful local artwork throughout the space, along with plants available for purchase, giving it a creative and inviting atmosphere. After grabbing your dessert, it’s easy to continue exploring downtown Lafayette, visiting neighboring local businesses, or simply relaxing and enjoying the area.

Places like this are exactly why we love exploring Indiana. They bring something unique to the community while supporting local culture and small businesses. Kürtőskalács isn’t just another dessert shop—it’s a place built on passion, travel, and the idea of sharing something meaningful with others.

If you’re planning a visit, you’ll find them at 500 Main Street, Lafayette, IN 47901, and they’re open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Whether you’re already exploring Lafayette or looking for a fun road trip from Indianapolis, Kürtőskalács is absolutely worth adding to your list. We already know we’ll be back to try even more of the menu—and we hope you’ll support this wonderful local business, too.
