13 Things to Do in Indy This Labor Day Weekend 2026

Labor Day Weekend is almost here, and if you’re staying around Indy, there’s a lot happening across the city and surrounding areas.

From September 3–7, you can spend the weekend discovering local art, eating your way through the final days of Devour Indy, listening to live blues in Fishers, watching some of the fastest cars in the country, exploring different cultures, or simply grabbing a blanket and enjoying one of the last outdoor concerts of summer.

And honestly, that’s what we like about this weekend. You don’t need one big plan. You can build your own depending on what you’re in the mood for.

So if you’re still figuring out what to do with the extra day off, here are 13 events and experiences we think are worth checking out around Indy this Labor Day Weekend.

1. Discover Local Art at BUTTER Fine Art Fair

📅 September 3–6
📍 The Stutz | 1060 N. Capitol Ave., Indianapolis

BUTTER is easily one of the most interesting events happening in Indy over Labor Day Weekend.

Presented by GANGGANG, the multi-day fine art fair returns for its sixth year, bringing together Black visual artists from Indiana and across the country. The experience goes beyond walking through a traditional gallery, with installations, music and a creative atmosphere that has helped BUTTER become one of Indy’s signature art events.

One of the things we especially love about the concept is its no-commission model. Artists keep 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their work.

If you’ve never experienced BUTTER before, this might be the year to finally add it to your weekend.

2. Catch a Show During Let’s Fest

📍 Multiple venues around Indianapolis

Maybe your Labor Day Weekend needs a little more comedy.

Let’s Fest returns for four days of stand-up, live podcasts, music and some intentionally weird entertainment happening at different venues around Indianapolis.

Instead of spending an entire day at one festival, this is an easy event to work into your weekend. Check the schedule, find a comedian or show that sounds interesting and build the rest of your evening around it.

Shows are scheduled at local venues including White Rabbit Cabaret and HI-FI, with a mix of national and local talent throughout the weekend.

3. Take Advantage of the Final Weekend of Devour Indy Summerfest

📅 Through September 6
📍 Restaurants across Central Indiana

If you needed an excuse to finally try that restaurant sitting on your saved list, this is it.

Labor Day Weekend is also the final weekend of Devour Indy Summerfest, with participating restaurants offering special menus and dining deals throughout Indianapolis and surrounding communities.

There are a lot of restaurants participating, so instead of trying to go through every menu, we recently put together our own WE LIKE INDY list featuring restaurants we’ve actually visited and enjoyed.

Make it a date night, meet up with friends or pick somewhere completely new.

Either way, ending summer with good food sounds pretty good to us.

4. Start Friday at the Eiteljorg Museum

Want to start the long weekend without spending anything?

The Eiteljorg Museum is hosting its final Free First Friday of the summer, offering free admission from 3–7 PM.

Beyond exploring the museum, the evening includes music from local DJs, artists, printmaking activities, games on the lawn and more.

We like this one because it can be the beginning of your Friday night rather than the entire plan. Explore the museum for a couple of hours, then walk somewhere downtown for dinner or drinks afterward.

5. Go Full Gamer at Who’s Yer Con

📍 Indianapolis Marriott East

For the gamers, Labor Day Weekend has something for you too.

Who’s Yer Con takes over the Indianapolis Marriott East for three days of tabletop gaming, board games, organized play, demonstrations and a huge game library.

You don’t have to arrive knowing exactly what you want to play either. Part of the fun is walking around, discovering a new game and meeting other people who are into the same things.

It’s also a solid family option, with children under 16 admitted free.

6. Experience the NHRA U.S. Nationals

📅 September 2–7
📍 Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park | Brownsburg

Labor Day Weekend in Indy wouldn’t feel quite right without some racing.

The NHRA U.S. Nationals return to Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, bringing several days of drag racing to Brownsburg.

Even if you follow other forms of motorsports around Indy, NHRA is a completely different experience in person. The speed is wild, but it’s really the sound and feeling of the cars launching down the track that makes it something you have to experience firsthand.

For motorsports fans, this is easily one of the biggest events of the entire weekend.

7. Explore the Come and See Egyptian Festival

📍 St. Mary & St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church | Carmel

One of the more unique options we found for the weekend is happening in Carmel.

The Come and See Egyptian Festival is a two-day celebration of Egyptian culture featuring traditional food, music, church tours, vendors and activities for families.

And yes, we’re especially curious about the food.

Events like this are one of our favorite ways to discover another culture without leaving Indiana, and because admission is free, it’s an easy one to add to your Saturday or Sunday plans.

8. Celebrate Downtown at Indy LaborFest

📅 September 5 | 12–6 PM
📍 Morris Bicentennial Plaza at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

If you’re looking for something family-friendly downtown, Indy LaborFest returns Saturday afternoon.

The free celebration brings live music, food trucks, drinks and a kids zone to Morris Bicentennial Plaza while celebrating Indiana’s working families and local labor movement.

You can also learn more about careers in union trades while you’re there.

Because it’s happening right in the heart of downtown, this is another event that’s easy to combine with other Labor Day Weekend plans.

9. Spend an Evening at Fishers Blues Fest

📍 Nickel Plate District Amphitheater | Fishers

This might be one of the easiest recommendations on the list.

Fishers Blues Fest returns to the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater with two evenings of live blues music, and admission is completely free.

The 2026 lineup includes Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Judith Hill on Saturday and Grammy-nominated blues artist Jontavious Willis on Sunday, along with several other performers throughout the weekend.

Bring your chairs, find something good to eat nearby and enjoy the evening outside.

No complicated plan required.

10. Enjoy One More Summer Night at Symphony on the Prairie

📍 Conner Prairie | Fishers

There aren’t many summer nights left, which makes Labor Day Weekend a pretty perfect time for Symphony on the Prairie.

There are three tribute concerts scheduled throughout the weekend: Free Fallin: The Tom Petty Concert Experience on Friday, The Phil Collins Experience on Saturday and Eaglemania on Sunday.

Pack your chairs and blankets, bring your picnic setup and make an evening out of it.

If your ideal Labor Day Weekend involves sitting outside with friends and listening to live music, this one is hard to beat.

11. See BABYMETAL + Halestorm at Ruoff

📍 Ruoff Music Center | Noblesville

Want something considerably louder?

BABYMETAL brings its World Tour to Ruoff Music Center on Saturday night with Halestorm and Bloodywood.

BABYMETAL’s combination of Japanese pop and heavy metal has built a massive international following, and pairing them with Halestorm should make this one of the most energetic concerts happening around Indy all weekend.

If outdoor festivals and relaxing evenings aren’t exactly your thing, here’s your alternative.

12. Try Something New at Indy Tequila Festival

📍 Military Park | Downtown Indianapolis

If your weekend plans are more about food and drinks, Indy Tequila Festival returns to Military Park on Sunday.

Expect tequila tastings, tacos, food trucks, margaritas, music and plenty happening throughout the afternoon.

The festival also features a margarita competition and live entertainment, making it much more than simply walking around sampling tequila.

Grab some friends, plan a safe ride home and make an afternoon of it.

13. Slow Things Down at Concerts in the Centerpiece

📍 Coxhall Gardens | Carmel

After a packed weekend, maybe Sunday evening calls for something a little more relaxed.

Concerts in the Centerpiece brings live music to the beautiful Coxhall Gardens in Carmel, with Heartstone Crossing Band performing from 5–7 PM.

Bring your chairs, blankets and something to eat, then find a spot on the lawn and enjoy the evening.

It’s free, all ages are welcome and honestly, it sounds like a pretty good way to slow things down before Monday.

One Long Weekend, Plenty of Ways to Spend It

The best part about Labor Day Weekend in Indy this year might be how different all of these options are.

You can start with art at BUTTER, have dinner during Devour Indy and catch some comedy afterward. Spend Saturday at the track before heading to Fishers for live blues. Try Egyptian food in Carmel. See BABYMETAL at Ruoff. Or completely ignore the busy festival schedule and spend Sunday evening sitting on the lawn at Coxhall Gardens.

There’s no need to do everything.

Pick a couple of things that sound like you, grab some friends and enjoy the extra day.

Summer may be winding down, but Indy definitely isn’t slowing down yet.
