Riot Fest 2026: A Weekend Worth the Drive to Chicago

We usually keep things pretty local around here, but every once in a while there’s an event outside Indiana that feels close enough to make the trip. Riot Fest is one of those, especially if live music and festival weekends are your thing.

Riot Fest returns to Chicago’s Douglass Park September 18–20 for three days of punk, rock, alternative and a lineup that jumps between generations in a really fun way. It’s an easy weekend trip from Indy, and with this year’s lineup, there are plenty of reasons to head north for a day or make a full weekend out of it.

The 2026 lineup

Friday kicks things off with Twenty One Pilots, Iggy Pop and Rise Against, along with Pixies, Alkaline Trio, The All-American Rejects, Motion City Soundtrack, 3OH!3 and more.

Saturday brings Tool, Morrissey and Nas to the top of the lineup, with Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Bright Eyes, Descendents, PUP, Thrice, Less Than Jake and The Chats also playing throughout the day.

Sunday closes the weekend with Pierce The Veil, Alanis Morissette and Elvis Costello & The Imposters, plus Patti Smith and Her Band, Taking Back Sunday, Pennywise, Bowling For Soup, The Beths and more.

There’s a pretty big mix across all three days, so whether you grew up listening to some of these bands or have a few newer favorites on the lineup, it’s the kind of festival where you’ll probably end up watching more sets than you originally planned.

A quick weekend outside Indiana

One of the nice things about Riot Fest is that Chicago is close enough to Indy to make this a pretty easy weekend trip. You can head up for the day that has your favorite lineup or stay for the weekend and have some time to explore Chicago between all the music.

The festival takes place at Douglass Park, with gates opening around 11 AM each day. One-day, two-day and three-day passes are available, and there are also Riot Fest late-night shows happening at different venues around Chicago throughout the weekend.

If you’ve been wanting to get out of Indiana for a couple of days before summer officially wraps up, Riot Fest might be a good reason to do it.
