After just a few hours on the road from Indianapolis, we found ourselves stepping into a completely different world.
Electric Forest 2026 officially kicked off at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, Michigan, welcoming thousands of festivalgoers for four days of music, art, creativity, and one of the most unique festival experiences in the country. For us, this wasn’t just another event—it was our first opportunity to cover Electric Forest as accredited media, and the first day immediately showed us why so many people return year after year.
More Than a Music Festival
One thing became clear within minutes of walking through the gates: Electric Forest is much more than a music festival.
Every path through Sherwood Forest reveals something unexpected. Giant illuminated sculptures, live artists creating murals in real time, hidden art installations, performers dressed as mythical creatures, and interactive experiences transform the forest into a place where every walk feels like a new adventure.
Instead of rushing from stage to stage, many attendees spend hours simply exploring everything hidden between the trees.
Incredible Festival Fashion
One of our favorite parts of Day 1 was seeing the creativity of the Electric Forest community.
From fairy wings and glowing outfits to cowboy-inspired looks and handmade costumes, festival fashion became part of the experience itself. Everyone seemed to embrace the freedom to express themselves, creating one of the most colorful and welcoming crowds we’ve ever photographed.
It felt less like attending a concert and more like stepping into a living art gallery.
The Music Begins
As the afternoon turned into evening, the festival’s massive stages came alive with music, immersive lighting, and stunning production.
Throughout opening day, artists performed across multiple stages while thousands of fans gathered to dance under the trees, setting the tone for an unforgettable weekend. Opening day delivered the signature mix of electronic music, vibrant production, and the welcoming “Forest Family” atmosphere synonymous with Electric Forest.
When the Sun Goes Down
If Electric Forest feels magical during the day, it becomes something entirely different after sunset.
The forest transforms into a glowing wonderland filled with projection mapping, colorful lights, illuminated sculptures, and interactive art installations. Every corner seems designed to surprise you, making nighttime one of the most unforgettable parts of the festival.
It quickly became our favorite time to wander without a destination.
A Perfect Road Trip From Indiana
One reason we’re especially excited to cover Electric Forest is because it’s surprisingly accessible for people living in Indiana.
Located just a few hours from Indianapolis, it makes for an incredible road-trip destination for anyone looking to experience one of America’s most celebrated music festivals without needing to fly across the country.
