If you’re a NASCAR fan—or simply love racing history—there’s a new reason to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum this summer. We recently had the chance to preview the brand-new Jeff Gordon exhibition, and it’s one of the most detailed and impressive displays we’ve seen at the museum.
Opening just before the return of the Brickyard 400, this special exhibition celebrates the life, career, and legacy of one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers through rare memorabilia, legendary race cars, and personal artifacts that have never been displayed publicly.
The exhibition follows Jeff Gordon’s story from the very beginning. Visitors start by exploring his childhood, including his early days racing quarter midgets, before moving through his sprint car years in Indiana and eventually into his legendary NASCAR career.
One of the things we loved most is how immersive the experience feels. Every room tells a different chapter of Gordon’s life, combining personal stories with historic moments that shaped one of the greatest careers in motorsports.
Throughout the exhibit, you’ll find detailed timelines, photographs, trophies, racing suits, and countless personal items that make you feel connected to his journey both on and off the track.
The highlight for many visitors will undoubtedly be the incredible lineup of 13 race cars spanning every era of Jeff Gordon’s career.
From his 1985 sprint car to championship-winning NASCAR stock cars, the collection showcases some of the most recognizable vehicles in American motorsports, including several iconic No. 24 rainbow and flame paint schemes that defined an entire generation of NASCAR fans.
Among the featured cars are Brickyard 400, Daytona 500, and Coca-Cola 600 winners, making this one of the most complete collections of Gordon race cars ever assembled.
Beyond the cars, the exhibit is filled with personal artifacts that have never been displayed to the public.
Some of the standout pieces include:
Another unforgettable moment is the massive wall featuring more than 70 racing helmets displayed as works of art. Combined with championship rings, letters, jackets, and trophies, the exhibition gives visitors a rare look inside Gordon’s personal collection.
While the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum has featured NASCAR history before, this marks the first time the museum has dedicated an entire exhibition to a single NASCAR driver.
That makes this experience especially meaningful—not only for Jeff Gordon fans, but also for anyone interested in Indiana’s racing heritage. Gordon grew up in nearby Pittsboro, Indiana, making his connection to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway even more significant.
After walking through the galleries ourselves, it’s easy to see the amount of care that went into every detail. Whether you’re a lifelong NASCAR fan or simply curious about one of the sport’s biggest icons, this exhibition is absolutely worth adding to your Indianapolis bucket list.
The Jeff Gordon exhibition is now open at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum and will remain on display through February 2027. Admission to the exhibit is included with museum admission.
