One of the newest attractions inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum lets visitors feel the excitement of Race Day before the green flag even waves.

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to stand on the starting grid of the Indianapolis 500, the Starting Line Experience at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is the closest you’ll get without climbing into a race car.

During our visit, we experienced one of the museum’s most immersive exhibits, designed to recreate the unforgettable moments leading up to the start of «The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.» The experience combines cutting-edge technology, dramatic sound, stunning visuals, and the actual front-row show cars from the most recent Indy 500.

The seven-minute presentation is displayed on a massive 80-foot-by-20-foot LED screen, surrounding guests with the sights and sounds of Race Day. As the ceremonial cannon fires, anticipation begins to build before the famous command, «Drivers, start your engines!» echoes through the room. At that exact moment, the show cars come to life, their engines roaring just as they would on Race Day, creating an unforgettable experience for racing fans.

Whether you’re a lifelong IndyCar enthusiast or visiting Indianapolis for the first time, the Starting Line Experience offers a unique way to connect with one of the world’s most iconic sporting events. It’s immersive, emotional, and a reminder of why the Indianapolis 500 continues to inspire generations of fans.

If you’re planning a visit to the IMS Museum, make sure this exhibit is at the top of your list. It’s more than an exhibit—it’s your chance to feel the energy of the starting grid before the green flag drops.
