Downtown Indianapolis is about to get a lot more festive this October. The Downtown Indy Alliance, teaming up with Big Car Collaborative and the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, just announced the first-ever Downtown Fall Fest, and it’s happening right in the heart of the city.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lugar Plaza. The whole thing is free and open to the public, no ticket required, though organizers are encouraging people to register ahead of time so they can plan for the crowd. Sign up early and you’ll also get a “know before you go” email with all the details closer to the date.

Expect a pretty packed few hours. There’s a Kids Corner powered by the PNC Foundation with face painting, pumpkin decorating, and balloon art, plus yard games, flower and pumpkin fields, fall-themed photo ops, pumpkin carving, and bouquet making scattered around the plaza. If you’re more in the mood to shop, there’s a fall-inspired vendor market lined up with seasonal goods from local names like Tinker Coffee and Dolce Vita, along with brand-new Downtown Indy Alliance merch from The Shop.

A few of Indy’s own are showing up too. The Fever, Pacers, Indianapolis Indians, IMPD, and IFD are all expected to be there keeping the energy going throughout the morning.

Organizers say a full vendor and activities lineup is still coming, so it’s worth checking back before the big day. For now, though, it’s shaping up to be one of the better free things to do downtown this fall.
