Kürtőskalács in Lafayette: A Sweet Local Spot Worth the Stop

A New Spot in Downtown Lafayette

A few weeks ago, we took a trip to Lafayette and discovered a spot that instantly stood out: Lafayette Chimney Cakes.

This place officially opened on March 14, and it already feels like one of those hidden gems you want to tell everyone about. Located right on Main Street, it has a cozy and creative vibe that makes you want to stay a little longer than planned.

A Taste Inspired by Travel

What makes this place even more special is the story behind it.

Nicolle and Damon, both Purdue graduates, discovered chimney cakes during a trip to Prague in 2022—and it clearly left an impression. Inspired by that experience, they brought this traditional Eastern European dessert back to Lafayette to share something different with the community they call home.

Their vision wasn’t just to open a dessert shop, but to create a welcoming space where people can try new flavors, experience a different culture, and simply enjoy something unique.

What We Tried (and Loved)

We ordered a Sweet Kürtőskalács ($9) and went all in with toppings:
– Strawberries
– Nutella
– Whipped cream
– Caramelized cinnamon sugar
– Cookie crumble

And honestly… it was so good.

The warm, freshly baked dough paired with cold toppings just works perfectly. It’s one of those desserts that feels simple, but done really well.

Thoughtful Options (Including Vegan)

Another thing worth mentioning is that they also offer a vegan version.

Instead of using traditional milk powder, their vegan dough includes coconut milk powder, making it suitable for both vegan and vegetarian diets.

Just keep in mind—they recommend calling ahead for vegan orders.

More Than Just Dessert

What we really liked is that it’s not just about the food.

The space features local art, small details that give it personality, and even plants you can purchase. It creates a relaxed environment where you can hang out, not just grab something and leave.

And since it’s right in downtown Lafayette, you can always explore nearby local shops while you wait.

Real Talk: The Wait

Our order took about 35 minutes.

But everything is made fresh, and once you understand that, it makes sense. Instead of rushing, it’s better to go in with time and enjoy the experience around you.

Why You Should Go

This is exactly the kind of place we love to support.

Local, intentional, and bringing something different to Indiana. It’s not just dessert—it’s a concept, a story, and a small business worth backing.

We definitely left wanting to try more, so we’ll be back.
