When Torchy’s Tacos arrived in Zionsville, we had the chance to experience the new location during a special media preview, and it didn’t take long to understand why this Texas-born taco spot has built such a loyal following.
Located at Sylo Crossing in Zionsville, Torchy’s brings a fun, casual atmosphere built around bold tacos, shareable dips, margaritas, and plenty of personality. During our visit, we were able to try a little bit of everything while also learning more about the story behind the brand.
A special thanks to Matthew for giving us such a great introduction to Torchy’s and walking us through what makes the concept different. Getting that background before diving into the menu made our first experience even better.
Start With The Threesome
Before getting into the tacos, we started with something we would absolutely order again: The Threesome.
For $12.50, it brings together Torchy’s Green Chile Queso, fresh guacamole, and salsa with plenty of tortilla chips for dipping. It sounds simple, but it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the experience.
The Green Chile Queso was especially good — creamy, flavorful, and with just enough heat without overpowering everything else. The guacamole tasted fresh, the salsa brought another level of flavor, and having all three on the table made this such an easy appetizer to share.
If it’s your first visit to Torchy’s, this is a really good place to start.
There’s a Secret Menu — Make Sure You Ask for It
Now for the main reason we were there: the tacos.
One thing we learned during our visit is that Torchy’s has a Secret Menu. You won’t necessarily see these tacos alongside everything else when you first look at the regular menu, so make sure you ask about it when ordering.
We started with The Matador from the Secret Menu alongside the Baja Shrimp, and they couldn’t have been more different. The Matador was one of the boldest tacos we tried, with smoked brisket, plenty of flavor, a little heat, and a combination of textures that made it stand out. The Baja Shrimp went in a completely different direction — crispy, fresh, and lighter, with the chipotle sauce bringing everything together.
Then came the Trailer Park and Crossroads. The Trailer Park is one of Torchy’s signature tacos, and after trying it, we understand why. It has that indulgent comfort-food feeling that works surprisingly well in taco form. Crossroads, meanwhile, puts the smoked brisket front and center and was another great choice if you prefer something savory and filling.
We finished our taco lineup with the Tipsy Chick, another completely different combination that pairs grilled chicken with spinach, grilled corn relish, green chiles, and a side of bacon bourbon marmalade. That sweet-and-savory contrast made it one of the more unexpected tacos we tried.
And if you’re looking for a meat-free option, Torchy’s also has vegetarian choices such as the Fried Avocado taco, so there’s plenty of variety for a group with different preferences.
Margaritas Are Definitely Part of the Experience
You can’t really talk about Torchy’s without talking about the drinks.
We sampled several during the media preview, including the Mexican Candy Margarita, House Rocks Margarita, Sangria Swirl Frozen, and Torchy’s Paloma.
The Mexican Candy Margarita was probably one of the most interesting of the group, combining watermelon with a little Tabasco kick. The House Rocks Margarita keeps things more classic, while the Sangria Swirl Frozen is an easy choice if you want something colder and sweeter.
And for something a little different, the Paloma brings grapefruit and a touch of heat into the mix.
The drink menu definitely adds to the overall Torchy’s experience and makes this an easy spot to consider for a casual dinner with friends, tacos and margaritas after work, or a weekend stop around Zionsville.
And Yes, Save Room for the Churros
We thought we were done after all those tacos, but then the churros arrived.
Don’t skip them.
Torchy’s scratch-made churros are warm, coated in cinnamon and sugar, and served with dulce de leche on the side. They were easily one of our favorite surprises of the visit and exactly the kind of dessert you want after a table full of tacos and margaritas.
Our First Experience at Torchy’s Tacos Zionsville
What we enjoyed most about our first visit was the variety. Torchy’s doesn’t try to make every taco taste or feel the same. Some are smoky and rich, others crispy and fresh, and a few combinations are completely unexpected.
Add in The Threesome, a fun margarita menu, vegetarian options, the Secret Menu, and those churros, and there’s enough here to make several visits feel completely different.
Torchy’s Tacos has brought something fun and casual to the Zionsville food scene, and after getting our first taste during the media preview, there are definitely still a few things on that menu we need to come back for.
