Indiana Repertory Theatre is kicking off its new season with something a little different: a stage adaptation of Dan Brown’s blockbuster novel, The Da Vinci Code. It runs September 23 through October 18 at the OneAmerica Financial Stage, 140 W. Washington Street, and it’s the first of IRT’s new co-productions with other regional theatres around the country, this one shared with Cleveland Play House.
If you haven’t read the book (or it’s been a while), the story follows Professor Robert Langdon and agent Sophie Neveu as they untangle a modern-day murder tied to centuries-old secrets hidden in religious art. Expect a fast pace. The whole thing clocks in around two and a half hours, including a 15-minute intermission.

A few dates are worth circling if you want more than just the show itself. Teacher Appreciation Night lands on opening week, September 23, with free and discounted tickets for educators plus a chance to meet the IRT’s education team beforehand. Opening Night is September 25, with food, drinks, and a champagne toast after the curtain call. If you’re the type who likes going behind the scenes, there are Artist Conversations sprinkled throughout the run (October 2, 8, and 15), plus a Community Conversation on September 26 about society’s fascination with hidden symbols and secret meanings.
One of the more unusual add-ons: on October 3, a University of Indianapolis chemistry professor is leading a hands-on class on invisible ink and cipher codes, where attendees build their own cryptex to take home, the same kind of puzzle box featured in the show. There’s also an ASL/audio-described performance October 4 and a Sensory-Friendly Performance October 17, both aimed at making the show more accessible.
